Location
Skamania County offers many opportunities with which
few other areas can compare. It is just 45 minutes to the Portland / Vancouver Metropolitan area, and yet 80% of the County is comprised of National Forest, and the other portion is bordered by the scenic Columbia River Gorge. This provides residents access to
the best of both rural and urban lifestyles.
Skamania County is located on the southern border
of Washington State and encompasses 1,672 square miles. The Gifford Pinchot National Forest and the
Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument make up the forest land. The County is bisected north and south by the Cascade Range,
with heavily forested rugged terrain, ranging in elevation from 75 feet along
the Columbia River to 8,365 feet at Mount St. Helens.
