SCORE
The Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) evolved
out of several small groups of volunteers which formed to offer free counseling
services to the members of their communities. The Small Business Administration
developed the SCORE program in 1964 to sponsor these volunteers in providing free
counseling services and business workshops.
Since its inception SCORE has helped over 3.5 million
business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs to start and operate their businesses.
It is a non-profit incorporated association, and continues to grow and expand
into other areas i.e., e-mail counseling. SCORE counselors cover a wide background
of professional expertise, including construction, electronics, computer technology,
marketing, accounting, finance, purchasing, retail sales and engineering.
The Fort Vancouver (WA) chapter was formed in 1987
and has 25 members, including one in Stevenson. It conducts 40-50 counseling sessions
per month and sponsors three beginning business workshops per year. To receive
help, just call the Ft. Vancouver office at (360) 992-3241. You may ask questions
or request a form to seek counseling help. A counselor will call you and schedule
a one-on-one free counseling session. To receive e-mail counseling, visit the
SCORE Web site at www.score.org, and select
a topic from the list of over 500 skills, or contact a specific counselor listed
in the Web site.
You will find the SCORE volunteers willing and able
to help you and we encourage you to participate in our workshops which are staffed
by experienced business people. |
